Improvement projects for Waiau District Park parking lots continue
Upper parking lot on Ka‘ahumanu Street closing from Jan. 23 to Feb. 8 for repairs

Waiau – The parking lot improvements at Waiau District Park will continue tomorrow with the beginning of a repaving project for the upper parking lot.

The parking lot, located on Ka‘ahumanu Street, is scheduled to be closed from Jan. 23 to Feb. 8, barring any delays.

The project includes: repaving, reconstruction, and resealing of the pavement with the restriping of parking stalls.

The lower parking lot, located on Komo Mai Drive, was previously improved in late 2018.

“I am grateful and pleased to see the numerous improvements planned for this 31-acre community asset, and support the City’s efforts to continue to make upgrades to our parks island-wide,” said area Councilmember Brandon Elefante. “The Pearl City Neighborhood Board and the community strongly advocated for these necessary improvements to the park. I share Mayor Caldwell’s passion for all of our parks, as they continue to represent the crown jewels of our communities through shared enjoyment.”

In addition to these repaving projects, facilities at Waiau District Park have recently been improved through Mayor Kirk Caldwell’s Kākou for Parks initiative. The comfort station, play courts, and play apparatus have all been upgraded through this initiative, which has resulted in improvements at 145 different parks across the island to date.

We appreciate the public’s patience and understanding while this parking lot is closed for improvements.
