Shore water event application deadline extended for non-North Shore surf events
Short term extension valid for events scheduled between October 22, 2018 and February 28, 2019
Honolulu -- On July 30, 2018, the Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) amended its rules and regulations governing shore water events held in city parks. This included revisions to the application filing deadline, extending it from 30 days to 90 days prior to the shore water event. Although media coverage focused primarily on the rule changes to surf events held on the North Shore, the new rules regulate shore water events on all shores of O‘ahu.
Because many permit applicants were not aware of the new application deadline, the DPR will be extending the deadline to submit applications to request permits for the use of city parks for shore water events held during the period from October 22, 2018 to February 28, 2019. Applicants desiring a permit to conduct a shore water event during this period shall submit their permit application no later than 15 days prior to the event.
An applicant desiring to conduct a shore water event after March 1, 2019, shall submit a permit application at least 90 days prior to the date of the shore water event, but no earlier than one year prior to the date of the shore water event.
This onetime extension does not apply to applicants desiring to be included in the 2019-2021 Triennial North Shore Calendar. The deadline for applications for the 2019-2021 Triennial North Shore Surf Calendar was September 28, 2018.
