Ref. No.: 28566 ** Price: $2800 ** Size: 36x48 ** Inspiration: Inspired by the strong breaks overlooking Makapu'u Beach in Waimanalo. More...
Kalama Beach 2017
Ref. No.: 28565 ** Price: $5000 ** Size: 48x60 ** Inspiration: "Kalama Beach" is a spot where I learned to body surf. It was a time when my younger brother Kent (who is now a Lifeguard) and I would our fins, catch the bus and hope for good surf. We didn't need anything big, we were happy with a 2 feet set but it did get larger. Then we graduated to Bellows Beach. More...
Kalama Beach
Ref. No.: 24038 ** Price: $1600. ** Size: 24" x 36" ** Inspiration: "Kalama Beach" is a spot where I learned to body surf. It was a time when my younger brother Kent (who is now a Lifeguard) and I would our fins, catch the bus and hope for good surf. Three Tables
Ref. No.: 24035 ** Price: $1000 ** Size: 15" x 30" ** Inspiration: "Three Tables" is another favorite site for me to paint at the North Shore. I can get away from the crowds but the beach offers a lot in the way of eye candy. Great crashing shoreline, light and shadow and gestures in the way of active people. More...
Ali'i Beach Park
Ref. No.: 24032 ** Price: $1400 ** Size: 18" x 36" ** Inspiration: "Ali'i Beach Park" painting brings back great memories for me as I would do a lot of the graphics and signs for the Triple Crown of Surfing years ago and Ali'i Beach was the site of the 1st jewel of the competition. As I painted it, I saw more than what was in front of me. More...
Olapa Sandy's
Ref. No.: 23843 ** Price: $5500 ** Size: 36" x 80" ** Inspiration: "Olapa Sandy's" was painted in 4 sessions on the mid zone of Sandy Beach where surfing is permitted. Usually in the break, only bodysurfing is allowed but either way, they both get my respect. Olapa is used in Hawaiian Hula, as "in the style of" and the parade of warriors of men/boys, women/girls that take on the shore break is awesome! More...
Kaaawa Beach, Hawaii
Ref. No.: 23838 ** Price: $1000 ** Size: 15" x 30" ** Inspiration: I painted "Kaaawa Beach" when the neighbor elementary school was having a excursion day there, so there was a lot of excitement in the air. The kids would call out, "Hi Mr. Artist!" More...
Waimanalo, Hawaii - April 2015
Ref. No.: 23836 ** Price: $1000 ** Size: 15" x 30" ** Inspiration: I painted "Waimanalo" when Martin Pahinui was being interviewed about 50 yards in front of me about 2 weeks ago. It was probably for his dad's (Gabby Pops Pahinui) celebration which is today, 4/25/2015. A celebration to honor Gabby at Waimanalo Beach Park with other entertainers. I sometimes sing a song that he liked to sing, "I'm living on easy, with a bottle of whiskey, I have no money to suit my honey." Ahhh the life of an artist! More...
Sandy Beach / Blowhole 1
Ref. No.: 23835 ** Price: $800 ** Size: 16" x 20" ** Inspiration: On the day I painted "Sandy Beach/Blowhole", the spouting waves from the blowhole was going off and even from my distance, I could feel the ebb and flow of the tide from where I stood. It was humbling to feel its power. More...
Queens Beach Waikiki - 4
Ref. No.: 23780 ** Price: $SOLD ** Size: 48" x 60" ** Inspiration: Queens Beach was painted on location on a day when I was doing a demo for my University of Hawaii at Manoa plein air class. It all fell into place with the right brush strokes, colors and intensity, the painting painted itself. It gained favor with everyone who witnessed me paint it and is now in the home of a Canadian collector. They must appreciate during the cold winters. More...
Sherwood Forest Waimanalo Bay 2
Ref. No.: 23779 ** Price: $SOLD ** Size: 36" x 80" ** Inspiration: Sherwood Forest was painted on location and that day the brush felt like I was conducting a symphony. The sun was bringing out the best colors and shadows were upright and strong. A nearby resident who is always a blessing when he visits is called Captain Howie. He has a good eye as he walks the beach daily and always is uplifting to visit with him and the others who come by. More...
Kualoa Mountains
Ref. No.: 23642 SOLD ** Price: $1400 ** Size: 15" x 45" ** Inspiration: I was very faithful to the Kualoa Mountains in my painting which I did on location at Kauloa Beach Park. As I brought it back into the studio, it needed more so I enhanced it with a palette knife adding more textures and colors. More...
Baby Pounders Surf Spot 2014 Miniature Hawaii Art Image
Ref. No.: 23538 ** Price: $100 ** Size: 8" x 8" ** Inspiration: Baby Pounders is opposite of Pounders beach and is a good surf break to body surf if your out of shape or just want to get wet without dodging waves. I did this mini painting prior to going larger on the Pounders beach painting. More...
Sherwood Forest Waimanalo Bay 1
Ref. No.: 23498 ** Price: $5500 ** Size: 36x80 ** Inspiration: "Sherwood Forest Waimanalo Bay" is one of a series of paintings I have done from that location. I like that as a artist, if you read the signs correctly then there are lead-ins to a painting like a railroad track to a destination. Dr. Beach rates this beach nationally as one of the top ten beaches. Sherwood Forest was also used as a backdrop for the movie "Princess Kaiuilani". More...
Pu'uikena beach
Ref. No.: 23493 ** Price: $5500 ** Size: 36" x 80" ** Inspiration: I did "Pu'uikena Beach" on location in 4 - 5 hour sessions and was inspired by turn of the century artist John Singer Sargent's "Shell Gather's" painting. Some of the days the water tide was higher so I just worked the upper part of the painting. But when the tide was low, it was a feast for the eye's and brush. More...
Kailua Beach Canoe
Ref. No.: 23492 ** Price: $3300 ** Size: 36" x 48" ** Inspiration: "Kailua Beach Canoe" was done out of sympathy for the small dwarfed canoe among the sleek giant racing canoes. What it lacked in size was made up with character as the rigging and it's hull told a nice story. Being close to Christmas, it reminded me of how Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer might have felt when he was not invited to play. More...
Makapu'u Beach
Ref. No.: 23491 ** Price: $3300 ** Size: 36" x 48" ** Inspiration: Makapu'u Beach painting was done on location in four sittings. As I progress in my painting, I tend to take more time and I slow down. This painting years ago would have been done in one sitting but I wanted to have more depth and not just have the gesture, but the detail as well. More...
Kahala Beach 2014 Miniature Hawaii Art Image
Ref. No.: 23488 ** Price: $100 ** Size: 5" x 7" ** Inspiration: "Kahala Beach" was painted as I looked towards the bridge and the horizon. I caught the area before it became a hub for activity with sun bathers, joggers and their pets. More...
Halona Beach 2014 Miniature Hawaii Art Image
Ref. No.: 23487 ** Price: $100 ** Size: 5" x 7" ** Inspiration: "Halona" was painted from Sandy Beach and is connected to the Blowhole that shoots up as the waves come in the cove and water spouts when waves heights reach about 4 to 5 feet. More...
Waikiki Beach 2014 Miniature Hawaii Art Image
Ref. No.: 23485 ** Price: $100 ** Size: 5" x 7" ** Inspiration: "Waikiki Beach" has to be viewed from a distance in order for it to come together visually. It's a lot of information to put on a small canvas but I don't want to reach for a small brush. There's a lot of energy going on at the beach and using a small brush would only diffuse that power. More...
Surfer At Sandys Beach 2014 Miniature Hawaii Art Image
Ref. No.: 23484 SOLD ** Price: $100 ** Size: 5" x 7" ** Inspiration: Surfer at Sandy Beach" was done prior to me doing a 36," x 80" door panel of Sandy Beach. Although Sandy Beach is famous for it's body surfing, the surfers can catch a break if they are in the middle section away from the grommies (youngsters). More...
Magic Island Night 2014 Miniature Hawaii Art Image
Ref. No.: 23483 ** Price: $150 ** Size: 8" x 10" ** Inspiration: "Magic island Nocturne" was inspired by the lights that reflect on the waters off Magic Island near Ala Moana Beach Park. After working on 5" x 7" mini's, doing an 8" x 10" was large but it's great to use a large brush to get the paint on the canvas, then use a smaller one to work the edges. More...
Tidepools 2014 Miniature Hawaii Art Image
Ref. No.: 23482 SOLD ** Price: $150 ** Size: 8" x 10" ** Inspiration: "Tide Pools" was done from Baby Makapu'u Beach Park or locally called Cockroach Bay. The tide pools are great for families with small children. The surf may be raging at nearby Makapu'u, but it's easy peasy at Baby Makapu'u and a great focal point to paint. More...
Aukai Beach 2014 Miniature Hawaii Art Image
Ref. No.: 23480 ** Price: $100 ** Size: 8" x 8" ** Inspiration: "Aukai Beach" was done several years back and was a first for me in the small sized artwork department. This Kahala beach location is a popular spot. I look forward to using this study as a genesis for a larger painting. More...
Little Kailua Beach Canoe 2014 Miniature Hawaii Art Image
Ref. No.: 23479 ** Price: $100 ** Size: 5" x 7" ** Inspiration: The "Little Kailua Beach Canoe" was done out of sympathy for the smaller canoe that was dwarfed by it's large sleek fellow racing canoes alongside it. Being close to Christmas, it's something liken to how Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer must have felt like, when nobody asked him to come out and play. More...
Broken Color Of Sherwoods
Ref. No.: 21814 ** Price: $3300 ** Size: 36" x 48" ** Inspiration: Sherwood Forest is in Waimanalo, on the Widward side of Oahu and as I painted this painting en plein air, it was a 3-stake day. As I anchor my large easel with construction stakes pounded in the sand to brave the winds and rain squalls. A 4 stake day tends to have more sand and pine needles from the Ironwood trees in my wet painting, but its a small price to pay to paint from a scene that Dr. Beach rates as one of the top 10 in the nation. More...
Laiea Break
Ref. No.: 18418 ** Price: $300 ** Size: 9" x 12" ** Inspiration: Lovely view of the beach and surf in Laie, a small town on Oahu's northeastern shore. More...
Kailua Tidepools
Ref. No.: 18410 SOLD ** Price: $1400 ** Size: 24" x 36" ** Inspiration: This artowk inspired by the Kailua beach tidepools was painted down the hill from the Lanikai monument in Kailua. I am in my own world as I look upon all the activity before me. More...
Queens Beach Waikiki - 3
Ref. No.: 18409 ** Price: $2800 ** Size: 30" x 40" ** Inspiration: Queen's Beach in Waikiki makes for a great focal point with the big Banyan tree which is a hub of activity. I look towards the beach beyond where the Royal Hawaiian Hotel stands and imagine just the Moana Hotel as its only companion years ago. More...
Stormy Day At Makapu'u Beach
Ref. No.: 18406 ** Price: $5500 ** Size: 48" x 60" ** Inspiration: Stormy day at Makapu'u Beach was done during the worst storm that even body surfers wouldn't go out.
But it was the perfect because of the energy it created for this painting inspired by the strong breaks overlooking Makapu'u Beach in Waimanalo. More...
Canoes Of Kailua 1
Ref. No.: 18403 ** Price: $5500 ** Size: 36" x 80" ** Inspiration: Canoes of Kailua was inspired by the paddlers who train daily over the course of the 3 days that I spent on location at Kailua beach. More...
Waikiki Beach Activity
Ref. No.: 18389 ** ** Size: 48" x 60" ** Inspiration: Painting in lobby of Pacific Beach Hotel.
As I painted this canvas on Waikiki beach, a party of people set up a tent, blocking my view looking Ewa. I asked them to give me 15 minutes to capture some details before setting it back up. Of course I worked on the foreground, with plein air painting, I have learned to go with the flow, to keep positive energy going. In Zen teachings it is said to " ride the horse in the direction it is running", or "swim with the direction of the ocean." More...
Surfers At Waikiki
Ref. No.: 18370 ** ** Size: 48" x 60" ** Inspiration: Prints made by Pictures Plus for Marimar Hotel
This painting of the Surfers happened on the beach in real time and was also purchased off my easel. As it is illegal to sell on a public beach, arrangements were made to deliver the painting to the client - which hours before were just beach people.
As I make my living as a artist, when you capture a scene well enough, it's like you get paid spiritually when your senses get filled with endorphins. More...
Queens Beach Waikiki - 2
Ref. No.: 18354 ** ** Size: 48" x 60" ** Inspiration: Purchased by Robert Kiyosaki
As I was finishing up this painting at the end of Waikik beach, a voice asked me what I was going to do with the painting afterward. I said "take it to a gallery." Mr. Kiyosaki asked me to bring it to his house down the road, we hung it on the wall and it was the start of other commissions for Robert and his wife Kim. Just good people! More...
Waikiki Surf Rental
Ref. No.: 18345 ** ** Size: 30" x 30" ** Inspiration: As I painted this painting right on the beach, I couldn't help but put the umbrella right in the center of the canvas. I weighted the canvas on the left with the sail from the Catamaran to balance it. As I painted with three other painters, they kept pointing that out but it didn't distract me from doing a good painting. As East Coast painter Tm Nicholas would say " something needs to go in the center". More...
Kihei Canoe Club/ Waikiki Beach Series #5
Ref. No.: 18340 ** ** Size: 24" x 30" ** Inspiration: Copyright of Pacific Beach Hotel
As the Pacific Beach Hotel series consisted of all paintings painted on Waikiki Beach, this is painting I did on Keehi Maui. l have kept that a secret until now, you heard it hear first! But it has all the pop of a Waikiki beach painting. I love the colors in the canoes. More...
Waikiki Beach Series #4
Ref. No.: 18339 ** ** Size: 24" x 30" ** Inspiration: Copyright of the Pacific Beach Hotel
When you paint on Waikiki beach, the easel and canvas is like a loudspeaker calling everyone to come talk to you and I don't mind it. I coach painters to paint en plein air (outdoors) that if you converse and listen to onlookers, you front your easel and give your attention to your canvas. If you turn your body and assign your presence to your talker, in that moment you have given more importance to that dialogue then to the one your having with your painting. I shouldn't take all the credit for this painting because of all the free advice I got from anyone and everyone. Thank you all! More...
Waikiki Beach Series #3
Ref. No.: 18338 ** ** Size: 24" x 30" ** Inspiration: Copyright of the Pacific Beach Hotel
This painting was one of the my favorites of the Pacific Beach Hotel series. As I was tucked in between all the activity on the beach, Diamond Head in the background provided a nice curtain to show off all that happens at its foothill.

Waikiki Beach Series #2
Ref. No.: 18337 ** ** Size: 24" x 30" ** Inspiration: Copyright of the Pacific Beach Hotel.
This rental surf stand was really busy as I painted it right on the beach. The shadows from the shady trees cast a footpath towards the shoreline. The painting shows the stand at rest as the surfers were already sent out to give lessons. More...
Waikiki Beach Series #1
Ref. No.: 18336 ** ** Size: 24" x 30" ** Inspiration: Copyright of Pacific Beach Hotel
The Pacific Beach Hotel sent me on the beach to do six paintings that would be reproduced for all their hotel rooms. My eyes were given free reign to capture anything and everything in my surroundings. I always like to put a sense of place in my paintings and the palm trees and activity expressed that easily. More...
Waikiki Surf Stand
Ref. No.: 18334 ** ** Size: 36" x 60" ** Inspiration: As I set up my canvas to capture the water and Diamond Head in the background, the beach boys started to set up their rental stand and the painting took on another life. Of course the guys wanted to check out my work while I was painting and they wanted bigger arms in my rendering. More...
Duke At Waikiki
Ref. No.: 18325 ** ** Size: 48" x 60" ** Inspiration: To do this painting of Duke took a lot of setup time. Starting early at 7:00 am, I dropped off my canvas and easel at the Beach as the beach boys watched it and parked about a quarter mile down the road at Kapiolani Park and I set up directly in front of the Duke Kahanamoku statue. There is a city web camera that's on a pole near the statue and I watch as everyone waves at the camera, saying hello to family, friends and relatives with shaka signs and banners. The painting flowed easily and was purchased off my easel by a doctor who lives in the condo on Kalakaua who watched the artwork's progress as he did his walks. I always tell people that I honor the state by not selling at public parks and beaches. He laid out cash on my picnic table palette which caught my attention, but I delivered the painting to him later. More...
Queens Beach Waikiki - 1
Ref. No.: 18302 ** ** Size: 24" x 30" ** Inspiration: I love painting at Queens Beach ,named after Queens Surf which used to have a nightclub years ago,
the name could also be attributed to when Princess Kaiiulani had a house here on the beach,I love the challenge of capturing the Royal Hawaiian Hotel that sits beyond on the other end of the beach in all it's majesty More...
Waikiki Surf Lesson
Ref. No.: 18286 ** ** Size: 30" x 40" ** Inspiration: There are some painting days where every brush stroke is magic, and the painting Waikiki Surf Lesson was that magical. I painted it directly on Waikiki beach as a surf lesson happened right before me. I was painting in real time, no photos or retouching in the studio. The magic is based on drawing for hours prior to going out on location daily. Overnight success with 20 years of experience. More...
